Cubic3 joins the 5GAA Board, strengthening its role in connected vehicle development and supporting OEMs with software‑defined vehicle and AI expertise.
Cubic3 has joined the Board of the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA), a body that plays a key part in how the automotive, telecoms and technology sectors work together on connected vehicle development. The move comes at a time when carmakers are placing greater emphasis on software-defined platforms, dependable connectivity and large-scale digital services.
For Cubic3, this appointment reflects the close work we already do with global OEMs, supporting programmes that rely on reliable, secure, and widely deployed connectivity. It also gives us the opportunity to be more closely involved in shaping industry priorities.
Working with the organisations shaping connected mobility
5GAA includes more than 100 members, from vehicle manufacturers and tier-1 suppliers to mobile operators, chip designers, and infrastructure providers. The association’s working groups focus on how vehicles and networks communicate, how standards evolve and how different parts of the industry align on future requirements.
Our Board seat will be held by Gerry McQuaid, supported by André Schlufter. Both bring long standing experience working with OEMs on large scale deployment of connected vehicle solutions.
Supporting the shift to software defined vehicles
Cubic3 contributes to several major SDV programmes, and many of the challenges we work on every day are the same ones being discussed within 5GAA:
- dependable global connectivity
- practical deployment models for millions of vehicles
- software platforms that can support new in-vehicle services
- close coordination between vehicle, cloud and network environments
By joining the Board, we can bring the practical realities of OEM programmes directly into discussions about standards and direction.
Strengthening the foundations for automotive AI
Cars are now producing vast amounts of useful data, and manufacturers are beginning to use it to support areas such as battery related insights, charging planning, safety analysis and maintenance prediction. Our appointment aligns with our ongoing work to ensure that the connectivity and software foundation for these AI driven services is strong, scalable and reliable.

Working with organisations across 5GAA will allow us to contribute meaningfully to the development of future vehicle platforms. The shift to software defined vehicles is well underway, and collaboration between sectors will be essential.
